Hydrothermal Treatment of Empty Fruit Bunches to Enhance Fuel Characteristics

نویسندگان

چکیده

Hydrothermal pretreatment of biomass can improve fuel characteristics based on the decomposition properties subcritical water. Thus, this study used a hydrothermal treatment to empty fruit bunches (EFBs), which are generated as waste after palm oil extraction. The experimental reaction temperature was increased from 180 °C 250 at an interval 10 and mass ratios between dry sample water content were set 1:8 1:16 so that sufficiently immersed. Additionally, material EFB under conditions investigated using energy yields, elemental analysis, proximate thermogravimetric derivative thermogravimetry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis products. As increased, fixed carbon heating value because volatile matter, including oxygen, removed first, is similar coal. All analyses revealed exhibited little influence since samples immersed in it not necessary add more required for immersion EFB.

Characterisation of Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunches for Fuel Application

This study was an attempt to produce bio-oil from empty fruit bunches (EFB) of oil palm waste using fast pyrolysis technology. A 150 g/h fluidised bed bench scale fast pyrolysis unit operating at atmospheric pressure was used to obtain the pyrolysis liquid. A comparison of the elemental composition of unwashed and washed feedstock was made in this study. With the five methods of treatment being...

Effective composting of empty fruit bunches using potential Trichoderma strains

Oil palm fibres are easy to degrade, eco-friendly in nature and once composted, they can be categorized under nutrient-enriched biocompost. Biocompost is not only a good biofertilizer but also a good biocontrol agent against soil-borne pathogens. In this research, experimental works on the composting of empty fruit bunches (EFB) from the oil palm industry were conducted using two potential Tric...

Statistical Optimization of the Enzymatic Saccharification of the Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunches

A statistical optimization of the saccharification process of EFB was studied. The statistical analysis was done by applying faced centered central composite design (FCCCD) under response surface methodology (RSM). In this investigation, EFB dose, enzyme dose and saccharification period was examined, and the maximum 53.45% (w/w) yield of reducing sugar was found with 4% (w/v) of EFB, 10% (v/v) ...

Pulping of Empty Fruit Bunches (efb) from the Palm Oil Industry by Formic Acid

Empty fruit bunches (EFB) from palm oil were characterized. The holocellulose (66.97%), α-cellulose (47.91%), and lignin (24.45%) are similar to wood materials, and various non-wood materials, but the fiber length is shorter (0.53 mm). The influence of operational variables in the EFB pulping [formic acid (75-95%), hydrochloric acid (0.05-0.15%), and time (30-150 min)], on the yield, kappa numb...

Co-composting of empty fruit bunches and partially treated palm oil mill effluents in pilot scale

The main objective of this study is to investigate the physicochemical changes of the cocomposting Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB) with partially treated palm oil mill effluent (POME) in pilot scale. The partially treated POME from anaerobic pond was sprayed onto the shredded EFB throughout the treatment. The composting materials were turned over one to three times per week for aeration. Temperature an...
